Metàfora’s Studio Arts Program is a flexible series of art classes that includes tutorials, practical workshops, theory, exhibitions, and other activities.
Key components of the program:
- Practice: Mandatory and elective workshops
- Theory: Compulsory classes specific to each year
- Discourse: Weekly tutorials and artwork presentations.
Structure
The Academic or Calendar Year is divided into 5 blocks. Each block last for 6 weeks, structured in the following manner:
- Weeks 1-4: Regular classes and activities (see the art program)
- Week 5: Extra tutorials and presentations by 1st Year students
- Week 6: Presentations by 2nd and 3rd Year students, followed by individual evaluation interviews with tutors.

How the part-time format works
Flexible course length
Each year on the Studio Arts Program adds up to 60 ECTS credits. Students in the part-time program can choose how to take their classes to earn the credits needed to pass each year. Depending on their schedule, completing one full-time year might take two or three years., as illustrated in the diagram.

Required ECTS credits per year
The Studio Arts program is tailored to meet the students’ needs as they progress from foundation to advanced level in their art creation.
During the 1st year of the program, students are requested to take more elective classes, choosing between practical workshops and seminar classes.
On the 2nd year, students take one elective class less. Through the mandatory practical workshops, they are invited to focus on their personal practice, what they are trying to say, and how this fits within the contemporary art context.
In addition to mandatory classes, students on the 3rd year get to focus on their Thesis Presentation and Final Show with the additional support of external professionals from the international art scene.

Part-Time Course conditions
Working space, no studio
Students on the Part-Time Course have no studio space or permanent workstation at Metàfora, but are welcome to store materials and work in progress in a specially designated area. Outside class hours, the part time students can work on personal art projects in designated classrooms.
Student Visa is not applicable
Please note that Metàfora’s Part-Time option does not qualify for a student visa, which is available only for studies over 25 hours per week.
