Multiple ways of attending the Studio Arts Program

Metàfora’s Studio Arts Program is designed in accumulative blocks that start several times a year. This means that students can join the art course for one block (which lasts for about 6 weeks) and then decide whether to stay on for longer.

There are 5 different student take-ins during the year and short term students simply “jump in” as visitors to the all-year course.

Both long- and short-term students on Metàfora’s Studio Arts Programs can attend courses from Metàfora’s Art Therapy department with a 25% discount.

Students who cannot come for 6 full time weeks (or longer) during the year have the academic year have other possibilities of attending Metàfora’s Studio Arts Programs.

The Summer Block is a four week version of the habitual course, only more intensive and with a program which allows students to sign up for down to one week.

As a new option, students can choose to study part time at Metàfora. This option is a very flexible and reduced version of the full time course, with most of the benefits, allowing the students to study at a much slower pace.

3 Year Studio Arts Program
The complete Studio Arts Program lasts for 3 years, and grow as an artist.
- Year 1: Foundation
- Year 2: Certificate
- Year 3: Diploma
Start in September or in January and receive huge discounts!
1 Academic or Calendar Year
Choose your level
- Year 1: Foundation (beginner)
- Year 2: Certificate (intermediate)
- Year 3: Diploma (advanced)
Students usually start their course in September, which coincides with the beginning of the Academic Year, or in January, which we refer to as a Calendar Year.
1 or more blocks
The course at Metàfora is made up of 5 blocks, where each block lasts between 5-6 weeks

Students can choose to stay from 1 block until 3 Years to complete the Studio Arts Program.
Summer Block
The Summer Block lasts between 1-4 weeks

Content based options

Foundation (Year 1)
The 1st year of the program is customized for students who have little, or no theoretical knowledge of art history.

The course is practical in nature, supplemented by discourse-based Tutorials, Recent Art History, theoretical À-Lab sessions and End-of-Theme Presentations.
Certificate (Year 2)
The 2nd year is designed for students who have have completed the 1st year of the Studio Arts Program, or those who join the course with previous studies in art or art-related subjects.

During this course, students are encouraged to join our more discourse-based classes, including Tutorials, Critical Theory sessions, theoretical À-Lab classes, WRKSHP sessions and artwork presentations.
Diploma (Year 3)
The 3rd year is designed for students who have have completed the 2nd year of the Studio Arts Program.

During their final year, students are expected to complete their pending discourse-based classes (Critical Theory sessions, theoretical À-Lab classes, WRKSHP sessions).

Every week they are expected to join individual tutorials and present artwork at the end of every block.

The year culminates with a thesis presentation event at Barcelona’s prestigious Contemporary Art Museum (MACBA) and a graduation show in one of the city’s established galleries.
Art Therapy Package
Students get the chance to combine an intensive, short Introduction to Art Therapy course with their studies on the Studio Arts Program at a discounted price.
