“Art, fabulation and narratives for worlds to come.”
Participants: Helen Torres and Bárbara Sánchez Barroso
When: Thursday 5th October between 19:30-21:00
Where: Carrer de Papin 29, Barcelona
Join us for an evening of gathering with artist Bárbara Sánchez Barroso to talk about the power of storytelling to shape worlds. Working mainly with moving image and video installation, Bárbara considers herself as “an explorer of stories, a storyteller who tries to transcend the boundaries between life and fiction from the perspective of situated knowledge,” always in the search of connections between humans and non-humans.
Helen Torres is a social scientist, translator, writer and educator. She focuses on the articulation between language, arts and politics. She works as an independent researcher giving seminars and lectures and facilitating workshops.
Informed by Donna Haraway, whom she has translated into Spanish, she has developed a theoretical framework on women with functional diversity, geolocated sound narratives, interactive installations, collective books and speculative writings.
Bárbara Sánchez Barroso
Working mainly with moving image and video installation, Bárbara is interested in empathy and connection towards coexistence, thinking about the relations of nature-culture and agency. She is always searching for ways of connecting with the other, and exploring that otherness – human and non-human – with the camera.
She believes in the political dimension of the personal and the vulnerable, the power of narrative and storytelling. In her practice different strategies are employed: from ethnographic documentary to essay films and fiction cinema, always making visible their structures while playing with them.
She considers herself an explorer of stories, and a storyteller herself who tries to transcend, from a situated knowledge, the boundaries between life and fiction.
