Art History Remixed professor and Head of Programs at Metàfora, Gabriel Luciani, will sit down with the creative collective Periferia Cimarronas; “a space of political affectivity and black love… a solidarity economy project, a cooperative sustained by black people, afro-descendants who are certain that culture is a form of transformation,” in the words of the organization. Beyond being an essential part of the fabric of the greater artistic community in Barcelona, they are also Metàfora’s neighbors located only a minute’s walk away from our school.
In the talk, we will cover subjects such as the importance of collective artistic spaces for marginalized realities, ethical collaboration, financing artists collectives and other topics essential to understanding how Cimarronas works. Specifically, Gabriel will be engaging in a dialogue with iki yos piña narváez, diasporic, trans/non-binary, afro-descendent activist and performance artist who is a member of the collective.
Event open to the public.
