Screening of JOA by Melle Skärfstad

What an amazing night last night was. The big hall of Metàfora turned into a screening room with people gathering inside to watch JOA, the 6 min video by Melle Skärfstad that Marc Larré curated to show for Loop city screen. Marc presented Melle and her previous work for the audience to get a better picture of the artist and her work.

The screening of the video opened up for a great debate and discussion afterwards. With Marc, Melle and Joa there in person to answer all the questions. JOA is the first video in the series portraying powerful beings and sharing their stories and the difficulties facing identifying as a woman or non-binary in today’s society. But also very much about celebration of true and free self expression.

As we shared “Sants night” for LOOP with Espai AnGram (Mirall Magazine / Jordi Garrido-Gisela Chillida), we went before to see the screening of “Da Da Data” by Jake Elwis. We had the pleasure of having Jordi and Gisela present with us and as the debate went on about identity, they decided to share a part of “Da Da Data” with us as well. “Da Da Data” is a film made by artificial intelligence showing CEO’s saying numbers for 20 min. As this was the complete opposite of Melle’s work celebrating self expression, it lead into an interesting debate. With both works on the opposite side of the spectrum.

We were also showing the powerful work of Karen Torres and Raechel Teitelbaum in the courtyard for people to watch after the screening while socializing and having a beer.
